An angelic teenager who died after plunging 100ft from the top of a white-knuckle ride at Oakwood Park may have slipped trying to free her clothing from the safety bar.

Police and safety experts were yesterday investigating how Hayley Williams fell from the back of the ride, described as 'Europe's fastest and wettest water-coaster', into the water below.

One theory being investigated by police is that her yellow waterproof jacket was snagged in the safety bar locked across her lap. Riders wear a seatbelt and the ride cannot start until a safety bar is locked in place.

Hayley, described as a sensible girl who wouldn't take chances, may have fallen when she tried to pull her jacket loose.

It also emerged that a woman died three years ago on an similar ride in California three years ago, made by the same Swiss company. The ride was modified as a result.
