For an idyllic summer after I had finished my degree I went to Florence University to study Italian. It was a time of great personal expansion as well as an opportunity to improve my language skills.

I had signed up for a month's tuition, a fraction of the full course. I decided I wanted to go the distance. So I left the expensive pensione in which I had been staying with a group of other British students and went to the British Council to look for somewhere cheaper.
