SIR - Marcus Trinick QC, on behalf of npower, told the wind farm appeal hearing that "so far in Wales the targets, aimed at reducing climate change, had been 'handsomely missed'." ("Inquiry opens into huge wind farm near Swansea", July 21).

This is a magnificently misleading stroke in favour of the Mynydd- y-Gwair wind farm, which Swansea City Council wishes to be rejected. Consider the following. If we removed every last soul of the UK's 60 million people, and bulldozed the entire human edifice of industry, buildings and transport into the sea it would reduce global carbon dioxide emission by less than 2% and would not measurably alter atmospheric carbon dioxide content.
