SIR - Hugh Trivett (Letters, Aug 24) has certainly caught my interest with his information on Welsh wartime air crashes.

The one Spitfire crash he mentions that happened in August 1940 was part of an air battle witnessed by my mother. Indeed the crashed plane was one of three Spitfires, scrambled from 92 squadron at Pembrey - the pilots were "Titch" Havercroft, Bill Watling and the ace Bob Stanford Tuck.
