Summary


Against the pale blues, oranges and sombre greys of a late November sunset, Bay Mermaid III glided across the calm waters of Cardiff Bay carrying the key to a new future for Wales. The harbour control boat escorted by two steamers, brought poet Gwyneth Lewis to the new Wales Millennium Centre standing as emphatically as a statement of hope on the shores of the Bay.

The 45-year-old is the author of the inscription which stands on the great golden dome of the Centre and has become a worldwide symbol for the building itself.
