John toshack last night outlined how some of the biggest names in Welsh football may have to bide their time and be patient from the sidelines as he seeks the perfect formula to bring Wales success. Right down the years, Welsh managers have historically picked their best individuals and worked a team pattern around them. But Toshack plans to do things the opposite way as he tries to end Wales' hoodoo of failing to qualify for a major finals since 1958.

The system, Toshack explained, will come first. He will then pick the players to fit into that - even if they are less glamorous ones like Coca-Cola Championship midfielders Carl Robinson and Carl Fletcher.
